RECOURSE Mediation Services models the values and principles of healthy communication and collaborative problem solving throughout the entire organization. Community, healing, and empowerment are infused in everything we do, every day.

We are Sonoma County’s community mediation organization. RECOURSE was started by community members committed to the principles of peaceful, mutual resolution of conflict as a way to build safer and healthier families and communities.

Recourse Staff

We are committed to the vision of empowering people to resolve their own disputes and we are the County leader in conflict resolution training.

RECOURSE is committed to the idea that with support, people can find peaceful resolution to their conflicts.

We began serving the community in 1992 offering victim-offender mediation for juvenile offenders, and were granted 501(c)3 non-profit corporation status in 1996.

RECOURSE has a small part-time staff and is powered by well-trained volunteer mediators who represent the diversity of Sonoma County. A volunteer Board of Directors leads RECOURSE. Board members include members from a variety of professions who share a commitment to our vision, that Sonoma County is a community where the skillful engagement and resolution of conflict produces positive change for all.

Some of the services provided by RECOURSE staff include:

  • Oversee administration of the organization
  • Manage programs: Community mediation, court-related mediation, meeting facilitation, conflict resolution training and restorative justice for youth
  • Supervise and coordinate a volunteer panel of over 125 well-trained and experienced mediators
  • Train new mediators
  • Fill-in when volunteer mediators are unavailable

RECOURSE has talented roster of certified volunteer mediators dedicated to our mission of serving Sonoma County as a leader in alternative dispute resolution, helping our fellow community members with even the most difficult, challenging, high-emotion conflicts.

Our volunteer base is filled with passion for peaceful conflict resolution, representing all walks of life and backgrounds. We are committed to cultivating an environment of diversity, respect, healing, education, support, empowerment, and equality.
