Project SAM – School Attendance Mediation- is a program for families of Kindergarten through 6th grade children who are having difficulty getting their children to school on time every day.

Kids Getting on School Bus

Project SAM started in 2012 in 6 elementary school Districts in Santa Rosa, leading the County in early intervention in truancy. Since 2015, Project SAM assists parents who have been prosecuted for failing to remedy truancy. By helping families fix the underlying causes, children return to school.

Research proves that regular school attendance in the early grades is a greater predictor of high-school graduation rates than other measures (visit www.attendanceworks.org for latest research). Children need to be and feel successful both in their academic work and in their ability to form and maintain strong social connections with other children and adults.

Project SAM is an approved Tier 3 Program on the Sonoma County Upstream Portfolio.
