Our 32-hour experiential training is conducted on two consecutive weekends to accommodate most work schedules, and teaches the basic skills required to successfully mediate disputes.

RECOURSE uses and teaches an interest-based model of mediation in which participants learn skills that surface the underlying needs, concerns, fears and desires of all parties in the conflict.

Part I: November 4 & 5

16 hours (9:00AM – 5:00PM each day)

Mediation skills development with a focus on using a facilitative, non-directive, interest-based approach within a community model: e.g., listening skills in mediation, working with a co-mediator, confidentiality, reframing, dealing with strong emotions and biases, positional vs. interest-based problem-solving, finding common ground, agreement writing, and debriefing with co-mediator.

RECOURSE staff and volunteers create a highly experiential, open environment with lots of feedback. Part I is a pre-requisite to Part II. However, participation in Part I may be waived based on verification of equivalent prior training and experience

Part II: November 11 & 12

16 hours (9:00AM – 5:00PM each day)

Reviews the community mediation model. Role-playing continues for the remainder of the weekend. All participants will role-play complete mediations on the final day. Participants who complete the training will receive a certificate from RECOURSE Mediation Services.

NOTE: RECOURSE is in the process of updating and enhancing its training offerings. Please check this page for announcements on future trainings and presentations available in the community. All announcements will be made here first.
